Presented by Dawn Prasad of NeuroRehab Allied Health Network
Dawn is a UK trained physiotherapist with over 20 years of experience working with clients with neurological conditions in the UK, Canada, New Zealand and Australia. Dawn completed a Master of Neurological Physiotherapy at Melbourne University and is a titled member of the Australian Physiotherapy Association (APA). She is a trained Feldenkrais Practitioner.
Description
The Feldenkrais Method makes use of brain plasticity to improve your ability to move. The goal is not so much to change the strength of your muscles, but to change how your muscles are controlled by your brain.
A Feldenkrais Practitioner will gently guide many variations of a movement to increase your awareness of how your body responds to the surface supporting you and the effects of gravity. This provides opportunities to change and modify usual movement habits thereby improving motor control and increasing flexibility.
In this 2-part workshop, learners will explore their relationship with the ground and how that affects their movement and balance in standing.
Learning objectives
Attendees will gain:
An overview of the Feldenkrais Method (FM) and how it harnesses neuroplasticity.
An understanding of neurological conditions benefitting from the use of the FM.
An experience of 2 practical Awareness Through Movement (ATM) lessons to demonstrate the effectiveness of FM in different starting positions.
An opportunity to discuss practical applications and client scenarios.
This workshop will be a modification of the 2023 workshop and previous attendees will still benefit from attendance.
Preferred in person attendance/hybrid where possible
Learners have the option of attending in person (limited places available) or attending virtually. Virtual learners should have access to a quiet room they can perform awareness through movement exercises in.
