Steve Woollard
Chief Executive Officer | Physiotherapist (BPhysio, APAM)
Steve has over 20 years of experience treating clients with neurological injury, establishing what is now NeuroRehab Allied Health Network in 2005. He held a senior position at Ivanhoe Private Rehabilitation Hospital, prior to joining the Royal Hospital for Neuro-Disability in London where he led the brain injury unit physiotherapy team for two years. Steve has a keen interest in spasticity and tone management, for which he devised a new scale of measurement. Steve is qualified to prescribe the Saebo range of orthoses which assist clients to regain upper limb function, and is trained to prescribe, set up and educate clients in the use of WalkAide foot drop stimulator devices. With a special interest in bed positioning, Steve established Postural Innovations with Neurological Physiotherapist, Angela Rowe, in 2008, developing a range of postural support products tailored specifically to clients with neurological injury.

Ellen is a physiotherapist with over 17 years of experience working with clients with neurological conditions in the UK and Australia. Ellen studied a Masters in the Bobath Concept in 2008 in the UK. She has worked in hospital rehabilitation centres, community settings and in the private sector around Melbourne and London. Ellen has extensive experience with clients with chronic neurological conditions including Multiple Sclerosis, brain injury, stroke and Parkinson's Disease. She was assisting teaching Bobath courses to Neurological Physiotherapists from 2008 to 2014 in various parts of Australia and New Zealand. Ellen has undertaken research into balance and midline issues after stroke and has a special interest in this issue.

Physiotherapist – Team Leader

Felicity completed a Master of Physiotherapy endorsed in Neurorehabilitation (2019). She is published in the Journal of Disability and Rehabilitation (Experiences of individuals with multiple sclerosis and stroke using transcutaneous foot drop electrical stimulators: a systematic review and meta-synthesis of qualitative studies). Felicity has worked in neurological physiotherapy in New Zealand, England and Australia, treating clients with neurological conditions in acute, rehabilitation and community settings. Felicity says, “I work with clients to establish what is important to them and help them to achieve their goals.”

Larissa has a Bachelor of Physiotherapy from the University of Otago, New Zealand. Since graduating she worked in a major teaching hospital in Hawkes Bay, NZ. Larissa completed rotational positions through all departments before she took on a more senior role in the Neurological Rehabilitation department over the past two years. Larissa has a broad range of experience treating neurological clients in acute and rehabilitation settings. Larissa has additional training and a passion for managing clients with vestibular disorders.

Esther has a Bachelor of Physiotherapy from the University of South Australia (2002). With over 15 years of experience, Esther commenced her career at the Repatriation General Hospital in SA before moving to Melbourne to work at Sunshine Hospital, followed by the Alfred Health Community Rehabilitation Program where she worked for over 11 years. Esther is passionate about client-centred care, supporting clients to achieve their goals, and supporting the team around her. She has extensive experience in treating neurological clients, including vestibular rehabilitation, stroke, Parkinson’s disease and multiple sclerosis. Esther has also commenced a Graduate Certificate in Neurological Rehabilitation at Edith Cowan University.

Isabela completed a Bachelor of Physiotherapy in Brazil in 2005 and Australia in 2013 from Curtin University. She has worked in private and community settings and has a passion for neurological rehabilitation and helping clients to achieve their goals. Isabela worked at Rocky Bay and Physioconcept in Western Australia and has experience with a variety of neuromuscular conditions including acquired brain injury, muscular dystrophies, spinal cord injury, Parkinson’s disease, Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, and Guillain-Barre Syndrome. Isabela has additional training in 24-hour postural care and wheelchair prescription. She speaks fluent Portuguese and English, and basic Spanish.

Alex has a Doctor of Physiotherapy from the University of Melbourne and a Bachelor of Science majoring in human physiology. She commenced her career in a rotational hospital role at Western Health, working across inpatient and outpatient settings while developing an interest in neurological physiotherapy. Alex was able to follow a love of travel to work in the UK, gaining experience in a community intellectual disability team and hospital-based stroke unit in London. Alex has a keen interest in stroke rehabilitation, experience treating a range of neurological conditions and strives for all clients to feel empowered in and out of their therapy sessions.

Pav has experience in acute settings as well as community settings. She has experience working with people post stroke, spinal cord injury, people with a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis, polio and cerebral palsy. Pav brings her incredible enthusiasm and fun nature into her therapy and believes clients can achieve so much. Outside of work, Pav enjoys exercising on a daily basis, from the beach to the mountains. Pav says, “I am super passionate about working with people with neurological conditions and I believe working together as a team with my clients can change their life and improve their quality of life – it is just incredible to watch their wins!”

Bec graduated from LaTrobe University with a Masters of Physiotherapy. She is a keen advocate for people with a disability and is Chair of the Australian Physiotherapy Disability Committee (Victorian branch). She has a particular interest in helping those with traumatic brain injuries and spinal cord injuries, along with spasticity and positioning management. Bec has undertaken further research in movement disorders, publishing several papers looking at the effects of music & movement therapy in Parkinson’s disease. She has also undertaken further studies in Italy, at a specialised neurological rehabilitation hospital. Bec says, “I am passionate about providing innovative practice and helping clients achieve their rehab goals”.

Anneliese is a highly experienced physio, having previously worked in many practices in Melbourne and Western Australia. She has worked with clients following stroke, traumatic brain injuries, Parkinson’s disease and other neurological conditions. She also has extensive experience in the treatment of musculoskeletal injuries and chronic health conditions such as osteoarthritis. Anneliese is passionate about helping clients achieve movement goals which are meaningful to them. Anneliese says, “I am a mum of two kids who love to keep me busy. I am an expert snow skier, and amateur guitar player, working on trying to get better at it!”

She started her career in aged and palliative care, where she realised the importance of care which considers the whole person. Renee then worked in community physiotherapy, gaining experience in treating neurological conditions including Parkinsons disease and stroke. She has completed additional training in clinical pilates, dry needling, and the Parkinson’s disease warrior program. She is undertaking a Master in Ageing. Renee says, “For leisure, I enjoy catching up with girlfriends and playing boardgames with my husband and three young children.”

Jennifer is experience in strength and conditioning training for athletes. As well as running fitness classes at gyms, and work in private practice. Her passion and interest in neurological physiotherapy stemmed from her work at inpatient hospitals where she provided rehabilitation for patients post-stroke and brain injury. Jenn also speaks basic Vietnamese. Outside of work, Jenn loves staying active playing volleyball, baking, and visiting weekend markets and events with her friends. Jenn says "creating strong relationships with my clients is essential for me to understand their goals and to advocate for their needs. I want to motivate people to surpass their goals and to create meaningful change in their lives."

Yarra has a deep passion for community care, and helping those with neurological conditions work towards their full potential. She has a background in strength and conditioning, and has worked in the acute, subacute and community settings within the physiotherapy scope. Jayne is passionate about working closely with clients to achieve what's important to them and to maintain a good quality of life. Alex has worked with people living with neurological conditions including stroke, Parkinson’s disease and multiple sclerosis. ’ is passionate about supporting people to better understand their condition and using evidence-based practice so her clients can take charge of their rehabilitation and work towards what is important to them. Outside of work Alex enjoys running, hiking in places like Wilson’s Promontory (just stunning) and hosting dinner parties.

With over 16 years of experience, Frances is well equipped as NeuroRehab’s Clinical Manager of OT. Frances has always been passionate about delivering individualised supports, and was a disability support worker while studying OT. After rotating through the Inpatient and Outpatient space of Health, she moved to supporting adults with disabilities in a range of clinical and management roles. Frances is passionate about facilitating opportunities for people to maximise their engagement and realisation of human rights through the use of assistive technology and positive attitudes towards dignity of risk. Outside of work, Frances enjoys singing and daggy dancing while cooking up a storm. Frances says, “I am steadfast and devoted to finding the win-win solution where the client achieving their goals is a win that is felt by all”.

Prior to joining NeuroRehab, Monique worked in public health settings gaining experience across acute, inpatient and community sectors, and developing a strong interest in neurological care and rehabilitation. Monique is passionate about upper limb and cognitive therapy. She will complete her Graduate Diploma in Psychology in 2022 and hopes to integrate these new skills further into her practice. Monique says, “Outside of work I like to spend time with my border collie puppy Nala, and exploring the beaches around Geelong.”

Susann completed her Bachelor of Applied Science and Master of Occupational Therapy Practice at La Trobe University. Prior to studying OT, Susann worked as a diploma qualified early childhood educator and kindergarten inclusion support worker. Susann is a qualified OT in Germany and has plenty of experience in neurological rehab settings where the focus is helping clients to become independent in their daily lives. Susann is passionate about removing barriers to participation and improving quality of life for people with neurological conditions. Susann says, “Outside of work, I love exploring the natural wonders of Australia with my family as well as socialising with friends, attending events such as concerts and shows, and going to farmers markets”.

Jillian has has experience working in the private paediatric clinics at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, Royal Melbourne Hospital and Sunshine hospital. Kylie loves the breath-taking nature sights Australia has to offer. On the weekends, you will probably find her at the local beach or nature reserve, taking a stroll or a jog. Rose is an Accredited Exercise Physiologist who graduated from Deakin University in 2017 with a Master of Clinical Exercise Physiology. She previously worked in community health as an Allied Health Assistant in chronic disease management. Rose is very excited to use her skills at NeuroRehab and use exercise as medicine to improve the physical and mental health of our client groups.

Cameron is an Accredited Exercise Physiologist, having graduated from Deakin University in 2020 with a Master of Clinical Exercise Physiology. He previously completed a Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Science/Business in 2017. He has previously worked in Veteran’s Health with a focus on supporting mental health through exercise and education. Cam gained experience in private and public practice whilst studying, and particularly enjoyed his time at the Royal Talbot, where his passion for helping neurological clients began.

Nicola has spent a number of years working as an Exercise Scientist within occupational health settings and has experience with a wide variety of conditions including cardiac, neurological, metabolic, pulmonary and musculoskeletal presentations. However neurological conditions are her first area of interest. Nicola likes socialising, and loves hockey – playing, coaching and umpiring. Nicola says, “I like to find new ways to make rehabilitation fun, whilst also working towards client goals. I love really getting to know my clients and creating rehabilitation programs which suit my clients’ personal needs and priorities.

Nikki worked for 3 years at Kieser Training as an Exercise Scientist and Exercise Physiologist after she completed her Masters. She has experience working with multiple conditions including chronic pain, osteoporosis and some neurological conditions such as multiple sclerosis and stroke. She is also quite adventurous and thrill-seeking, Nikki has bungee-jumped in New Zealand and jumped out of a helicopter in Switzerland.

Lilia graduated from Our Lady of the Rosary University in Bogotá, Colombia in 2001. In 2006 she undertook postgraduate study in rehabilitation management at La Sabana University. Lilia worked as a neurological physiotherapist in a highly respected rehabilitation centre in Colombia until 2006, when she moved to Australia. After working as an attendant support worker for two years, Lilia joined NeuroRehab Allied Health Network in 2008. Lilia is committed to assisting clients with neurological injury regain optimal functioning. Lilia can also speak Spanish.

Mariana graduated as a Physiotherapist in Brazil in 2006. In 2008, she undertook postgraduate study in neurology rehabilitation at Unifesp University in Brazil. She has Clinical Pilates training to assist during neurological rehabilitation. Mariana had extensive experience working as a neurological physiotherapist in Brazil until 2011 when she moved to Australia. In 2012 Mariana undertook a Master in Public Health in Sydney, and was employed as a support worker for a neurology company for a year. After working as a physiotherapy assistant for six years, Mariana joined NeuroRehab Allied Health Network in 2019. Mariana is passionate about neurology rehabilitation providing comfort and quality of life to her clients. She can speak Portuguese, English and basic Spanish.

Zinah is in the final months of completing her Masters of Occupational Therapy. She has worked in both private and community settings within care management and quality assurance roles. Zinah has experience working with conditions such as Intellectual Disability, Multiple Sclerosis, Huntington's Disease, BPD, Schizophrenia, Motor Neuron Disease and Brain Tumours. She is passionate about supporting clients to make progress in achieving their goals and empowering them to facilitate as much independence as possible .Outside of work, Zinah enjoys going to the gym, reading, bingeing shows and hanging out with her dog Brownie

Erin completed a Bachelor's degree in Speech and Hearing Sciences in 2008 and a Masters in Speech and Language Pathology in 2010 at Macquarie University. Erin has over five years experience working in acute hospital and adult inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation. Whilst living in Sydney, Erin worked at Macquarie University Hospital, MQ Health Speech and Hearing Clinic, as well as Mt Wilga Private Hospital. Her experience has covered a broad range of areas including assessment and management of communication and swallowing problems across the areas of TBI, stroke, progressive neurological disorders, head and neck cancer and oncology. Erin has particular interest in acquired communication disorders and is passionate about assisting clients with their rehabilitative goals.

Tracey has experience supporting communication and swallowing for both adults and children in a variety of settings and areas, including head and neck cancer, Alternative and Augmentative Communication, and community groups. She has a keen interest in acquired communication difficulties and dysphagia, and she is enthusiastic and informative in her therapy approach. Tracey is fluent in Vietnamese. Tracey says, “I enjoy working with clients holistically to support their communication in functional contexts”.

Janay completed a Bachelor of Speech Pathology at the Australian Catholic University (2020). Throughout her studies, Janay undertook speech pathology placements with children and adults, conducting assessments and implementing appropriate therapy programs. Janay was an allied health assistant with NeuroRehab for 1.5 years prior to becoming a qualified speech pathologist. Janay works enthusiastically to ensure therapy programs are engaging and enjoyable, working with her clients towards their personal goals. She is inspired by the hard work of her clients and helping them to live life to the fullest. Janay loves to spend time cooking and joking around with her family. You will also likely see her dancing and singing in the car on her way to work!

Kylie completed a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Psychology at Melbourne University and a Master in Psychology (Clinical) at The University of Tasmania. Kylie has experience working in a range of settings which include community and private practice, various schools, inpatient, and drug and alcohol. Kylie has worked with individuals across a range of ages from school-aged children to adults. Kylie has extensive experienced in cognitive and learning assessments. She has a strong interest in ‘talking therapy’ and enjoys helping individuals adjust and cope with living with illness or disability. Kylie’s approach is warm and person-centred. Kylie enjoys using a combination of mindfulness and compassion-based approaches for clients for whom it is suitable. Kylie has a regular mindfulness practice which adds depth to her work.

Eleanor is in the process of finalising a Doctorate in Clinical Neuropsychology. While her research background is in older adults and neurodegenerative disorders, she completed specialist Neuropsychology training across neurodevelopmental, public health, and mental health settings. Eleanor is passionate about finding the therapeutic approach that fits best for each individual. Outside of work you can find Eleanor trying (and failing) to grow her veggie patch, or walking her dog Miso.

Kimberley has worked in private practice with both children and adults with a range of conditions. These include developmental disorders, acquired brain injuries, neurological disorders, mental health conditions and neuro-degenerative disorders. She has also previously worked in residential and community settings as a therapy assistant. Kimberley says, “I have a keen interest in cognitive rehabilitation, PBS and using evidence-based ‘talk’ therapies such as cognitive behavioral therapy to assist clients to reach their goals and live in accordance with their values.”

Katrina is currently completing a Master of Psychology (Clinical Neuropsychology) at the University of Melbourne. She is passionate about providing evidence-based support to individuals with a range of neurological conditions and hopes to grow her knowledge in Positive Behaviour Support. In addition to her specialist training in clinical neuropsychology, Katrina is involved in research exploring the efficacy of psychosocial support for older adults with depression. Katrina says, “My areas of particular interest include the intersection between mental health and neurology, early intervention for neurodegenerative conditions and the impacts of neurological injury on the developing brain”.

Yuki has a Bachelor of Psychology and a Master of Music Therapy from the University of Melbourne. Upon completing her Masters, she worked in Western Australia as a clinical specialist at Sing&Grow Australia and her own private practice, Music Therapy Now. She has worked in a variety of public and private healthcare settings predominantly in acquired brain injury, disability and early childhood development. Yuki was previously the WA state chair for the Australian Music Therapy Association and a current member of the national social media committee. She also runs a podcast discussing music therapy with a variety of music and health professionals.
