Description
This 2-day workshop is designed to introduce participants to the concepts of normal movement used in the assessment and treatment of adults with neurological or neuromuscular impairments.
The workshop consists of a theoretical introduction to normal movement, practical sessions and a patient demonstration and will focus on postural control for reach.
Course aims
Expand the participant’s understanding of normal movement.
Introduce the application of the principles of normal movement as used in the assessment and treatment of adults using The Bobath Concept®.
Develop the participant’s ability to analyse posture and movement.
Learning outcomes
By the end of the workshop, participants should be able to:
Describe the concepts and basic components of normal movement.
Understand the wide postural and tonal variation in the normal population.
Draw on improved analysis and assessment skills to more effectively treat neuromuscular disorders.
Presented by Alena Scurrah
Alena qualified as a Bobath Instructor in 2014 after 25 yeas work as a physiotherapist. She completed her Graduate Certificate in Research in 2007 with published research on the allied health management of acute stroke.
Alena is currently employed as the Rehabilitation Team Leader at the Cairns Base Hospital Rehabilitation Unit, with an inpatient and outpatient caseload. She loves to promote the use of the Bobath Concept in clinical fields outside of neurology with patients who have movement problems.
