Advanced workshop – Saturday 28 November 2026 @ 9am-2pm
Online + NeuroRehab Allied Health Network, Deer Park
The FES workshops are suitable for physiotherapists, occupational therapists, exercise physiologists, prosthetists and orthotists
Attendees will understand the indications for using Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) in a neuro population, be aware of safety considerations when prescribing, up-to-date regarding best practice, be introduced to devices and techniques, build awareness of funding considerations and develop confidence using FES. Presented by NeuroRehab Allied Health Network.
Basic workshop
Functional Electrical Stimulation for a Neuro Population
Learning intentions
Understand the indications for using Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) in a neuro population
Be aware of safety considerations when prescribing electrical stimulation
Be aware of up-to-date best practice related to the use of electrical stimulation
Be introduced to related electrical stimulation devices and techniques
Build awareness of funding considerations and funding implementation strategies
Develop confidence using FES to support clients achieving their upper and lower limb goals.
We will spend some time during the face-to-face workshop practising FES on each other. You can bring your own FES device or purchase a NeuroTrac device below.
Advanced workshop
Advanced Neuromodulation Applications in Neurological Rehabilitation
Learning intentions
Develop practical hands-on skills in the setup, application, and progression of advanced multichannel NMES, FES, CES, PAS, ETS, tSCS, and emerging neuromodulation technologies used in rehabilitation.
Explore and compare emerging rehabilitation technologies, neuroprosthetics, and stimulation systems currently advancing neurological rehabilitation practice across clinical, community, and home-based settings.
Analyse and adjust stimulation parameters including pulse width, frequency, amplitude, waveform, duty cycle, timing, triggering systems, and electrode placement to optimise therapeutic outcomes.
Apply evidence-informed clinical reasoning when selecting stimulation technologies for motor retraining, spasticity management, strengthening, autonomic regulation, functional restoration, and activity-based rehabilitation.
Gain practical exposure to advanced device applications across upper limb, lower limb, gait, cycling, respiratory, and task-specific rehabilitation interventions for neurological populations.
Build clinician confidence in integrating advanced electrical stimulation and neurotechnology into real-world rehabilitation practice through guided demonstrations, case discussions, and interactive station-based learning.
Identify safety considerations, contraindications, troubleshooting strategies, and implementation challenges associated with advanced stimulation technologies in rehabilitation settings.
Critically discuss future directions in neuromodulation, wearable rehabilitation technology and translational innovation to support ongoing clinical upskilling and professional development.
